In the depths of the pandemic, Maker's Carvera Kickstarter campaign, a fully automated desktop CNC machine, brought in nearly 500 backers to reach its goal. Since then, the company has sold about 2,500 more of them — but with a hefty price tag of $6,000 and a huge amount of interest from academia, the company wondered if it couldn't do something different. At CES in Las Vegas, Makera showed off its little brother, the Carvera Air. With almost the same work space, but some of the fancy features of its bigger brother, the Maker Air is a (slightly) different beast, one that's even better for learning the basics of CNC manufacturing.
